Proud Affiliate of the American Sidesaddle Association!
The Northwest Aside Group (NAGs) is a sidesaddle drill team and parade unit dedicated to the art of side saddle. Started in 2004 by friends that loved riding sidesaddle, the group now draws members from Idaho, Oregon, and Washington and is still growing.
The husbands provide ground support and fill in when needed, dressed in old west attire to match the Victorian inspired costumes worn by the ladies. Many of the sidesaddles the ladies use are antique westerns once sold through catalogs such as Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery Wards in the 1800’s.
The Northwest Aside Group performs in several parades, shows, rodeos, and equine expos each year, and have won multiple awards including two Sweepstakes Awards for Best Horse Entry, and the Evelyn B Jones Memorial Award for Best Equestrian at the 2007 Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade.
The group recently expanded operations into Montana, with invitations to perform in three different events in 2008. Members currently range from 21 yrs old to 70+, including one disabled and one diabetic member. NAG’s have two riders that were certified as Instructor/Judges and in Sidesaddle Fit by the International Side Saddle Organization. The group boasts Mules, Quarter Horses, Morgans, and a Tennessee Walking horse, equines of all colors – riders of all ages!

The Northwest Aside Group is a performance team and as such only accepts active memberships from ladies or gentlemen who will be participating in events. Each member pays their own attire, traveling, and equipment costs. We generally enjoy free stabling as our remuneration for providing entertainment at events. All prospective members must be approved by all current members - we are a small team and must be sure everyone will get along. Members are not required to participate in all events, and can represent the Group in their local parades on their own.
If you are interested in joining the NAGs, and are willing to haul to Walla Walla, WA or Dayton, WA for practices, please contact us and tell the NAGs about yourself and your horse or mule. You do not need to have sidesaddle experience - we can teach you! We can also help you find an appropriate sidesaddle. All you need is a steady horse, and a good attitude!
